Staff Writer

The American Economic Liberties Project is a non-partisan, non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to fighting monopoly power. Together with Fight Corporate Monopolies, our sister 501(c)4 organization, we combine policy and regulatory expertise with strategic communications, coalition-building, and advocacy campaigns to help ensure policymakers protect workers, small businesses, communities, and democracy from monopolistic corporations to advance economic liberty for all.

We are seeking a Staff Writer to support our communications and development teams. The ideal candidate for this position has experience synthesizing complex legal and policy documents into clear, compelling prose — and a passion for fighting corporate power.

In this role you will:

  • Draft op-eds, talking points, scripts, speeches, statements, and event invitations for Economic Liberties’ and Fight Corporate Monopolies’ senior leadership team;
  • Distill longer research into more accessible, popular writing for Economic Liberties’ and Fight Corporate Monopolies’ website and social media channels;
  • Draft regular updates (e.g., newsletter) to communicate Economic Liberties’ work to its allies and supporters;
  • Draft grant proposals, reports, and other development-related content;
  • Help to create and shape Economic Liberties’ and Fight Corporate Monopolies’ written materials to maximize their relevancy to members of Congress and their staffs; and
  • Become fluent in the range of policy solutions available to address concentrated corporate power.

About you:

  • At least 2 years of writing experience in a fast-paced environment, ideally on a political campaign, newsroom, or advocacy organization;
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to synthesize complex topics into both long form pieces and concise talking points;
  • Great communications skills over phone, email, and chat;
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to juggle multiple tasks;
  • Methodical approach to setting and reaching goals;
  • Enjoy building new relationships and being a team player;
  • Self-directed, creative, and adaptive to dynamic project needs;
  • Sense of curiosity about how markets work and ways policy could help decentralize economic power; and
  • An interest in politics and awareness of day-to-day political developments.
