Editor and Research Manager

About American Economic Liberties Project

The American Economic Liberties Project is a non-partisan, non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to fighting monopoly power. We combine policy and regulatory expertise with strategic communications, coalition-building, and advocacy campaigns to help ensure policymakers protect workers, small businesses, communities, and democracy from monopolistic corporations to advance economic liberty for all.

Position Summary

Economic Liberties seeks a Research Manager and Editor to help guide the work of a small team of antimonopoly policy researchers and advocates to generate original work to advance the organization’s policy and advocacy agenda. Economic Liberties’ research team develops a wide range of products to reach a diverse set of audiences, ranging from in-depth market structure analyses for expert audiences and comment letters for regulatory agencies, to accessible policy briefs and policy toolkits.

Our research and editorial projects are designed to support our political strategies to take on Wall Street, Big Tech, and other powerful corporate interests that exploit consumers, small businesses, undermine fair competition, and prevent elected officials and regulators from holding them accountable.

In this role you will:

  • Work collaboratively with the senior team and expert advisors to develop, manage, and execute a policy and research agenda aligned with the organization’s strategic and tactical objectives.
  • Manage the overall research and product development pipeline by providing guidance to research staff, providing substantive and structural editorial support, ensuring projects are proceeding in a timely way, and streamlining communication with the leadership team.
  • Serve as a liaison, collaborator, and editor for projects undertaken by Economic Liberties’ fellows or outside experts.
  • Work closely with the communications team and the advocacy team to develop and execute product distribution strategies.
  • Produce and edit original policy research and related content, such as letters to policymakers, agency comments and petitions, op-eds, factsheets, and longer research reports and legal briefs.
  • Represent the organization at external meetings or with the media as required.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in research, writing, journalism, or policy work.
  • Demonstrated experience developing written research projects and bringing them to completion.
  • A proven ability to write accessibly for audiences with different levels of expertise; long form and breaking news editing experience is a plus.
  • Proven ability to synthesize complex information—like academic research, surveys and statistics, and public policy—into accessible and digestible content for both public and expert audiences.
  • Excellent organizational and management skills.
  • A strong working knowledge of economic policy, with knowledge of antitrust law and competition being a plus.
  • The ability to ensure research products are high-quality and completed on schedule in a fast-paced environment.
  • An interest in politics and awareness of day-to-day political developments relevant to competition policy.
