Virtual Event: Lowering Utility Costs in the Age of Data Centers

Across the country, families are struggling with rapidly increasing utility bills, after monopoly utilities requested a record $31 billion of rate increases in 2025. But those higher costs are not inevitable: They have been permitted by corrupt utility regulators who have greenlit excess utility profits, siphoning money from Main Street to Wall Street.

Especially with the rapid expansion of big tech data centers, reining in monopoly utility profits is one of the most pressing policy issues in the U.S. today. State legislators and advocates have the power to reform utility ratemaking to ensure rates are just and reasonable, and to prevent the costs of data centers from being foisted onto countless communities. There is an urgent need to get this right, now.

On March 26 at 2 p.m. EST, join the American Economic Liberties Project for a virtual discussion on how to rein in monopoly utility profits in an age of data center expansion. This event will feature a range of lawmakers and experts, and an explanation of Economic Liberties’ model bill to reform utility ratemaking.
