The American Economic Liberties Project is a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to developing policy ideas and generating political will for decentralizing concentrated economic power by educating, supporting, and demanding accountability from state and federal public officials who are responsible for protecting workers, entrepreneurs, small businesses, and communities from monopolistic corporations. Position Summary
American Economic Liberties Project seeks a Policy and Advocacy Associate to support a growing portfolio of legislative, coalition, and campaign work. This role will help coordinate outreach to policymakers and partner organizations, support briefings and events, track internal projects, and support Economic Liberties’ advocacy priorities. The Policy & Advocacy Associate will become familiar with the range of issue areas Economic Liberties researches and will develop the ability to write and speak about those matter.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support the drafting of outreach materials, talking points, hearing memoranda, and other briefing materials to support advocacy and policy goals.
- Support the planning and execution of Hill briefings, coalition meetings, events, and other advocacy efforts.
- Track legislative developments, congressional hearings, and other policy-relevant updates to help identify opportunities for engagement and rapid response.
- Work with Policy and Advocacy team leadership to identify opportunities to engage members of Congress, congressional staff, federal agencies, partner organizations, and other key stakeholders.
- Support the drafting of a monthly competition policy digest targeted to congressional staff.
- Maintain and manage distribution lists and stakeholder correspondence.
- Track advocacy letters, including leading the engagement with internal leadership and external partners about sign on opportunities.
- Track and support AELP’s federal legislative endorsement process.
- Maintain contact databases to support AELP’s relationship management.
- Maintain organization wide advocacy impact tracking.
- Support internal project management across policy, advocacy, and coalition work streams to ensure deadlines are met.
- Attend congressional hearings, legislative markups, and events as needed.
- Support special projects and additional policy or advocacy needs as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of policy, advocacy, government, or related experience.
- Familiarity with Congress, federal government, and national political environment.
- Strong writing skills, including the ability to accurately synthesize complex information into concise, audience-specific materials.
- Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills to represent the organization’s work and strengthen relationships with congressional offices and allied organizations.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and shifting priorities.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively across teams.
- Interest in how politics, policy, and corporate power shape markets, economic wellbeing, and institutional outcomes.
- Experience with coalition work, stakeholder outreach, or event coordination is a plus.
This role will be based in Washington D.C.
This is a full-time, exempt position. The salary for this position is between $60,000-65,000 plus excellent benefits. Compensation is commensurate with experience. We strongly encourage LGBTQ, women and people of color to apply.
