July 18, 2023 Press Release

Washington, D.C. — In response to news from the White House this afternoon that Hannah Garden-Monheit will be assuming the role of Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy and Director for Competition Council Policy in the National Economic Council, the American Economic Liberties Project released the following statement.

“This is great news for the future of competition policy at the White House,” said Nidhi Hegde, Managing Director of the American Economic Liberties Project. “Hannah has been a champion of the Biden administration’s efforts to end corporate abuse and foster a level playing field for honest businesses, entrepreneurs, and working people. Her new role signifies the administration’s institutionalization of its whole-of-government approach to rigorously promoting competition to create a dynamic, resilient economy. We’re thrilled to see her continue this vital work.”

The American Economic Liberties Project works to ensure America’s system of commerce is structured to advance, rather than undermine, economic liberty, fair commerce, and a secure, inclusive democracy. Economic Liberties believes true economic liberty means entrepreneurs and businesses large and small succeed on the merits of their ideas and hard work; commerce empowers consumers, workers, farmers, and engineers instead of subjecting them to discrimination and abuse from financiers and monopolists; foreign trade arrangements support domestic security and democracy; and wealth is broadly distributed to support equitable political power.
