Fmr. Senate Antitrust Subcommittee Chief Counsel Phillip Berenbroick Joins Economic Liberties

August 20, 2025 Press Release

Washington, D.C. — The American Economic Liberties Project today announced that Phillip Berenbroick, former Chief Counsel, Competition & Technology for the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Antitrust Subcommittee, will join the anti-monopoly organization as Senior Strategist – Policy and Advocacy.

“I’m thrilled to bring my experience on Capitol Hill to an organization that’s anchoring the modern anti-monopoly movement,” said Philip Berenbroick, Senior Strategist – Policy and Advocacy at the American Economic Liberties Project. “As the Trump administration unleashes a wave of corporate pardons for white collar lawbreaking, Congress has an even bigger role to play in standing up for Americans’ economic liberties and checking the power of monopolists. I’m eager to get to work with the team at Economic Liberties to make that happen.”

Prior to working with the House and Senate Antitrust Subcommitees, Phillip was a Policy Director at Public Knowledge, where he advocated before Congress and federal agencies on broadband competition, affordability and privacy. He also previously worked as a telecommunications regulatory attorney in private practice and as a legislative aide in the Virginia House of Delegates.

“At a time of growing urgency and demand for bold policy solutions and effective advocacy against the power of dominant corporations and financial interests, we are proud to be strengthening Economic Liberties’ team with Phil’s expertise,” said Nidhi Hegde, Executive Director of the American Economic Liberties Project. “From helping lead the House Antitrust Subcommittee’s landmark investigation into Big Tech in 2020 to advancing Senator Klobuchar’s efforts to modernize federal antitrust laws, Phil has played a central role in shaping Congress’s most significant anti-monopoly work in recent years. His experience will be invaluable as we deepen our engagement with policymakers and allies.”

The American Economic Liberties Project works to ensure America’s system of commerce is structured to advance, rather than undermine, economic liberty, fair commerce, and a secure, inclusive democracy. Economic Liberties believes true economic liberty means entrepreneurs and businesses large and small succeed on the merits of their ideas and hard work; commerce empowers consumers, workers, farmers, and engineers instead of subjecting them to discrimination and abuse from financiers and monopolists; foreign trade arrangements support domestic security and democracy; and wealth is broadly distributed to support equitable political power.
