The American Economic Liberties Project and Groundwork Collaborative released The Cost of Corruption: Americans Are Paying the Price for Trump’s Corruption

June 3, 2026 Press Release

Washington, D.C. — The American Economic Liberties Project and Groundwork Collaborative released The Cost of Corruption: Americans Foot the Bill for Trump’s Corruption today, a joint fact sheet documenting how the Trump administration’s self-dealing is raising costs for everyday Americans.

“Voters know this administration has turned the federal government into a grift for consolidating wealth among Trump’s family, his allies, and the biggest corporations, at the expense of working families and small businesses,” said Morgan Harper, Director of Policy and Advocacy at the American Economic Liberties Project. “The rule of law should apply to everyone, and  this fact sheet is a reminder that we cannot afford to look away or pretend that any of this is normal. The country is not Trump’s to liquidate.”

“As working families buckle under the weight of Trump’s high prices, the president is further driving up costs by abusing his position to direct taxpayer-funded kickbacks to his family and political allies. His erratic policymaking is making daily life more expensive,” said Molly Claflin, Groundwork’s Senior Fellow. “Americans know they’re being ripped off and are demanding accountability.”

New polling from Groundwork Collaborative and Data for Progress released alongside the report finds that over half of all voters believe Trump is more corrupt than the average politician, and two-thirds say Trump has used the presidency to benefit himself, his family, and his allies. Separate Navigator Research polling last week found that tackling government corruption is voters’ second-highest priority, behind only the cost of living.

The fact sheet documents corruption across healthcare, crypto, antitrust, consumer protection, aviation, AI infrastructure, and more, connecting administration policy decisions to the financial interests of Trump, his family, and major political donors. Each deserves more interrogation. We hope reporters use this as a roadmap for ongoing investigations into the administration’s rampant corruption. And with Trump’s birthday on June 14 approaching, the timing is right for stories that connect these dots.

The American Economic Liberties Project works to ensure America’s system of commerce is structured to advance, rather than undermine, economic liberty, fair commerce, and a secure, inclusive democracy. Economic Liberties believes true economic liberty means entrepreneurs and businesses large and small succeed on the merits of their ideas and hard work; commerce empowers consumers, workers, farmers, and engineers instead of subjecting them to discrimination and abuse from financiers and monopolists; foreign trade arrangements support domestic security and democracy; and wealth is broadly distributed to support equitable political power.
