Washington D.C. — Following today’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Adam Candeub’s nomination to serve as Assistant Attorney General for the Antitrust Division, the American Economic Liberties Project released the following statement from Phillip Berenbroick, Senior Strategist for Policy and Advocacy:

“Nothing about Adam Candeub’s record suggests he’ll do anything at the Antitrust Division except continue to carry water for big corporations from a desk at Justice. At the FCC, he served as General Counsel while the agency rubber-stamped every major broadcast, cable, and wireless consolidation that came before it. He served as a central architect of Brendan Carr’s weaponization of the agency to punish media outlets critical of the Trump administration – conduct that senators from both parties have publicly rebuked, including in the Judiciary Committee today.

We wish him the best of luck being anything more than a doormat for his compromised superiors at DOJ. But given that Todd Blanche and Stanley Woodward have already made it clear they are happy to bow to outside lobbyists and to sign off on major mergers despite objections from career staff — as they did with the Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger — we’re not holding our breath. The Judiciary Committee should reject this nomination and stop pretending this administration is interested in enforcing the antitrust laws.”
